Case Study-Terminations, Redundancies & Resignations

Case Study - Terminations, Redundancies & Resignations

During a tough economic period, our client needed to make around 25% of their staff redundant.

The redundancies were happening over an extended period of time and were extremely difficult for all concerned. We had worked with this client for many years assisting them with individual redundancies, process of termination, how to handle resignation conversations, various terminating employment processes, templates, letters and documentation.

We designed a strong compliant redundancy process, suitable for Australia and fully Fair Work compliant. These multiple redundancies had specific complexities over payments; notice periods and individual circumstances.

We held all redundancy meetings for the client, who was unsure how to conduct a redundancy consultation meeting, provided consultation meeting agendas and scripts.

During this time, it was extremely important to keep organisational morale strong and minimise ‘survivor syndrome’ from those still in the organisation, as well as fully supporting those who faced Redundancy. We offered our Outplacement Services and Career Coaching to all those involved and fully supported all employees.

We faced one Fair Work Claim, from a redundant worker, while the other redundant workers, were waiting on the outcome. Success in this claim. would open the gates for much higher redundancy payments from other employees who had faced employment termination.

We engaged in conciliation with the affected employee and Fair Work, successfully defending our position, our consultation meeting agenda and our redundancy payments.

The affected employee agreed to no further action, and we received no other claims from the other members of the workforce being made redundant. We continue to work closely with this client today.
