Wednesday March 8th is International Women’s Day, a day of international celebration, and awareness of the plight of women and work everywhere. The guiding paradigm for the day is to create a more inclusive, gender equal world.
The next day in the Sutherland Shire is a wonderful International Women’s Day Lunch hosted by local Accounting firm Sullivan Dewing. The Sullivan Dewing team have been running this event for 8 years and it is much loved and highly attended. The theme for this year is “Bringing people together with a passion for business”.
A fabulous guest speaker, Mimmo Lubrano of Sandhurst Fine Foods, Chris Bath, media personality as MC and a scrumptious lunch at Doltone House in Sylvania Waters should be enough of a reason to attend. However, I am going to give you the Human Resource Consultant’s reason on why you should go to lunch!
Firstly, you need to get out of the office. Your keyboard, mouse, desk and phone are hidden receptacles for germs and you need to treat your body and mind to a new fresh environment for lunch on Thursday March 9th.
Additionally it has been shown that a change of environment is a huge boost to creativity. So if you have been struggling with your team to get them to be innovative and create new products and systems, you just need to get them out of the office for lunch. Being in the beautiful Doltone House room will assist to enhance their divergent thinking, making them more creative. Have a session with them the day after and say ‘OK we are going to brainstorm new ideas’. They will be fresher and more creative than ever!
By taking your team to IWD at Doltone House on Thursday March 9, you will be enacting a great Health and Wellbeing initiative in your organisation.I bet that many of your team down a quick sandwich with their eyes glued to the laptop or PC and just keep working. This heightens health issues and can even increase stress levels. On the other hand a lunch with fine food, entertaining speakers, lively table conversation and a feel good theme will reduce stress and release endorphins to create a happier team!
Now I bet you never thought about this one – People who place all their focus into the art of eating actually eat less than those of us who graze and eat while continuing to work. Therefore, by bringing your team to the IWD lunch, you will be assisting them to loose weight. Add to this the chance for them to network after the lunch and it is a win-win situation!
I bet after reading this, you will never have a rushed, skipped half lunch again and I look forward to seeing you at Sullivan Dewing’s International Women’s Day on Thursday March 9 at Doltone House.
