As a member of the Australian HR Institute (AHRI) we like to keep up to date with the latest in HR issues and advice. Five issues from last year that were AHRI’s most visited topics were:
- Performance Management
- Exiting the organisation
- Recruitment & Selection
- Learning and Development
- HR Strategies and Planning
Interesting that these topics gathered the most interest. We see these issues as some of the most difficult for clients as well, so let’s unpack them and how we can help.
1.Performance Management – did you know that most people would rather visit the dentist than do a performance management meeting? Also most feedback given to employees during a performance management meeting (even if positive) is taken in a negative way!
What you can do about it: Engage in some training from CIRCLE Recruitment & HR in how to run performance management meetings. Set up a simple but effective performance management system to enable your manager to cope with this task and to engage your employees in their own performance management – we can do all of this for you.
2.Exiting the organisation – are we talking about terminating others here, or exit strategies for owners. Both can be very daunting for organisations – with terminations, there are not only Unfair Dismissal laws but a bevy of General Protection claims, that come with uncapped damages to worry about. If exit involves business sale, there are contributing factors around your staff that need to be addressed also.
What you can do about it: If it is termination of employment, we are highly skilled in this area and can assist you to terminate safely. Whether we are talking about termination due to capacity issues, performance issues or redundancy, CIRCLE Recruitment & HR is highly skilled in this area. If you are looking to exit your business we can also assist with looking at termination issues for staff or developing greater HR capacity for business sale – the strength of your HR practises and systems has a direct correlation to business sale price – so get us on-board soon!
3.Recruitment & Selection – getting the right people in your organisation is a key worry for business owners. The wrong person can wreak havoc, not to mention be incredibly expensive. Some organisations have issues attracting staff in the first place – they do not have enough candidates from which to choose. Others just make the wrong choices.
What you can do about it: Our name does not encompass the word ‘Recruitment’ for no reason. For 15 years we have been recruiting everything from entry level employees to senior executives. Our database is huge – over 18,000 candidates and our reputation strong. Our unique expertise in HR as well, means that our recruitment process is based on empirical research and best practise. We give our clients full access to our testing and procedures, so you have the best opportunity to choose the right person.
4.Learning and Development – many organisations struggle with understanding how to develop their employees and worry about employees moving on, once they are trained. These are common issues considered by organisations
What you can do about it: While not a training company, CIRCLE Recruitment & HR offers one on one coaching of business owners, CEO’s and managers to assist them to develop training plans for their teams. Workforce planning encompasses looking at skills and key people to ensure the organisation is able to move forward sustainably. We also offer sessions in management training and performance management.
5.HR Strategies and Planning – Often organisations have ideas, but do not know how to implement them. Perhaps you would like to undertake some future planning, move to a more sophisticated level with your HR management or just drive some economic outcomes through your people.
What you can do about it: CIRCLE Recruitment & HR’s HR division regularly works with owners and CEO’s to develop strategic plans and workforce plans. We can take your wild idea and format it into a usable HR initiative with plans, programs and most importantly accountability.
